Reading in the Wider Community

We recognise the absolute importance of reading for people of all ages and want to work with both members of our school community and the wider village community to enhance the culture of reading. Our school vision is ‘Global School Vision - Village School Values’ and we want to bring the world of reading to Walton on the Hill.

Inspired by an initiative in his home town of Reigate, where there is a community book share in the Priory Park, Mr Samuel wrote in the local magazine floating the idea of a community book resource in our village. Local estate agents Michael Everett & Co (Walton-on-the-Hill) have been very accommodating and from January 2020 will be hosting a book case in the lobby of their office 61 Walton Street which is designed to encourage to share books and leave reviews for people about the books. The books will be accessible during their opening hours which are 9am – 5.30pm Monday to Friday, 9 – 4pm on Saturday. They are closed on Sundays.

The main principle is ‘Bring a Book – Take a Book’! We would like people who have read something they have enjoyed to bring it along to the bookcase, if possible leave a short review and to take a new book to enjoy. Please spread the word around the community.
