Our Governors
Our governors work together to uphold our school ethos, drive educational excellence and foster strong ties with the community. Coming from a range of backgrounds, including parents and staff, they offer a valuable range of skills that support the strategic direction of the school and ensure the best outcomes for pupils.
Our Chair of Governors is Mrs Sarah Asher: chair@walton-on-the-hill.surrey.sch.uk
The Full Governing Body operates as a flat structure and meets twice a term to review the performance of the school, in line with Department for Education guidance.
The Department for Education describes the three core strategic functions of the governing body as:
- ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction, holding the headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils,
- performance management of staff, and
- overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent.
We regularly audit the skills and diversity of our Full Governing Body, using the NGA Toolkit, but do not publish this data due to the possibility individuals could be identified. Our vision is for a Board that reflects our local community and has the skills to effectively support the school. Our audit data informs this aim and has shaped targeted recruitment to address gaps in experience and diversity, and identified training needs.
'What have we done at this meeting that has improved the education of the children in our school?'
At the end of each meeting, we ask ourselves this question because, as a governing body, we constantly evaluate the effectiveness of our performance and strive to improve so we can fulfil our strategic role to the very best of our collective abilities.
