PE, Games and Sport
Physical Education, Sport and Wellbeing
At Walton on the Hill Primary School, we are passionate about inspiring every child to develop a lifelong love of physical activity. Through high-quality PE, sport and games, we aim for all children to find an activity they truly enjoy — whether that’s on the sports field, in the pool, on the track or on the dance floor.
We use the Get Set 4 PE curriculum to ensure every child experiences engaging, progressive and inclusive lessons that build confidence, competence and teamwork. All children enjoy at least two hours of high-quality PE each week, supported by a wide range of after-school clubs including football, netball, basketball, rugby, kickboxing, cross-country, dance and drama to name but a few.
Sport plays a central role in our school life. We have competitive teams in football, netball, tag rugby, swimming, cricket, athletics and cross-country, and we regularly take part in local leagues, festivals and inter-school tournaments. Our Sports Crew help to organise and lead events such as Sports Day and intra-school competitions, developing leadership, communication and organisation skills. The aim is that every child has the opportunity to participate which will develop essential resilience but also their sense of success and belonging.
We work in partnership with local sports clubs and professional coaches to ensure the quality of teaching and coaching is of the highest standard. Every child in Key Stage 2 swims for a term each year, ensuring that no pupil leaves Walton without this vital life skill. We also enjoy a special partnership with Walton Heath Golf Club, giving every child the opportunity to learn golf from qualified coaches, and with Epsom College, who generously share their facilities and host sporting events for our pupils.
Regular initiatives such as the Daily Mile and creative playtimes help keep our children active every day, supporting not only physical fitness but also mental health and emotional wellbeing. At Walton, sport is far more than competition — it’s about participation, confidence, and joy. We want every child to leave our school with a strong sense of wellbeing, teamwork and the belief that being active is an essential part of a happy, healthy life.
