Remote Learning and Alternative Provision

At Walton on the Hill Primary School, we are committed to ensuring that every child continues to learn, feel connected and remain safe — even in the event of prolonged school closure or individual absence. Our remote learning plan ensures that high-quality education, care and safeguarding remain at the heart of everything we do.

Our Commitment

In the event of another pandemic, local lockdown or long-term closure, we will continue to provide a broad, balanced and engaging curriculum through a combination of online learning, live and recorded lessons, and carefully planned independent activities. We will use our established digital platforms to maintain communication between home and school, ensuring that pupils and families feel supported and connected at all times.

Every child will have access to age-appropriate resources that reflect our in-school curriculum, including learning packs for families who cannot access digital learning. We will also provide additional support for children with SEND or other specific needs, ensuring that all learners can access education in a way that meets their individual circumstances.

Safeguarding and Wellbeing

Safeguarding remains our top priority during any period of remote learning. Staff will continue to follow our Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy, with regular check-ins and ongoing communication to monitor attendance, engagement and wellbeing. Any concerns will be logged and followed up in line with statutory guidance. Our Designated Safeguarding Lead and pastoral team will remain available to support pupils and families throughout any period of disruption.

We recognise the importance of maintaining children’s mental health, sense of belonging and routine. Alongside academic learning, our remote provision includes opportunities for pupils to interact with their peers, celebrate achievements, and stay connected to their teachers and the wider school community.

Alternative Provision and Support

For children who are unable to attend school for extended periods due to medical, social or other exceptional reasons, we will work with families and external agencies to design appropriate alternative provision. This may include part-time attendance, home learning programmes, specialist support or adjusted timetables. Our aim is always to ensure that no child feels isolated or left behind.

Our Promise

Whatever the circumstances, our commitment remains the same:

  • To provide every child with access to high-quality learning.

  • To safeguard and support our pupils and families (including conducting appropriate checks on any alternative provision providers).

  • To ensure that every child continues to feel part of our Walton community — to belong, learn and shine, wherever they are
