Pupil Voice and Leadership
At Walton on the Hill Primary, we believe that every child’s voice matters. Our vision is to ensure that all children feel empowered, have a strong sense of purpose, experience success, and know that they truly belong. We nurture these values by providing meaningful opportunities for pupils to contribute to school life, influence decisions, and lead positive change.
Empowering Children to Lead
We actively promote responsibility and leadership across the school. Pupils take on a wide range of roles including:
-
Pupil Parliament Representatives who share ideas and help shape school priorities.
-
Eco Team Members who lead on environmental projects and sustainability initiatives.
-
Wellbeing Ambassadors who promote kindness, inclusion, and mental health awareness.
-
Sports Crew, Reading Champions, House Captains and Digital Leaders who model teamwork and help others succeed.
Our commitment to diversity and equity means that we ensure every group of children is represented and every pupil has a fair chance to contribute. We want all children to feel that their voice is heard and develop the confidence to take on additional responsibility.
Pupil Voice in Action
Pupil Parliament meets regularly to discuss issues raised by classes and suggestion boxes placed around the school. Each week, pupils take part in class voice sessions to share ideas and feedback, which are then brought to Parliament meetings and discussed in assemblies. Every two weeks, children choose what learning and achievements they would like to showcase at our celebration assembly, ensuring their efforts are recognised and valued.
We also seek pupils’ views through regular surveys and encourage them to share thoughts and ideas via Class Dojo or directly with staff.
Leadership Beyond the Classroom
Our children play a vital role in representing the school community. Pupil Parliament and Year 6 leaders tour parents during open events and speak confidently about their experiences of school life. Children also sit on recruitment panels and give feedback to staff appointments—recently helping to appoint both our new Headteacher and Deputy Headteacher.
Real Impact
Our pupil voice makes a genuine difference. For example, following discussions at an Eco Citizens’ Assembly, our Eco Team identified solar panels as a priority for the school. Their vision and advocacy helped secure a grant which will help to make this ambition a reality.
At WOTH, we are proud to say that our children don’t just attend school—they help shape it. Through active participation and shared leadership, they are developing the confidence, responsibility and citizenship skills that will last a lifetime.
