Sustainability and The Future

We are amidst a global climate, biodiversity and health crisis.  A vital part of our role is to equip the children we teach with the tools they need to live sustainably, and be successful, happy and healthy in an unpredictable and rapidly changing world.

Climate Action Plan

In April 2022, the Department for Education published the sustainability and climate change strategy for education. It says that by 2025, all education settings should nominate a sustainability lead and have a climate action plan.  Mrs Whitton is our lead teacher and Caroline Kaegler Devine is our lead governor.

A climate action plan will help education settings undertake and educate about sustainability initiatives.

Our climate action plan was developed by the executive head, head of school, chair of governors and lead governor for sustainability with input from the sustainability lead teacher and Eco Team and was shared with our school community at the end of the summer term in 2024.  You can find it on this page and a summary version that is more child-friendly.

Eco Schools Project & Eco Team

We are very proud that WOTH Primary is now a Green Flag Eco-School, which is an internationally-recognised award for our excellence in environmental action and learning and part of our longstanding commitment to helping the children learn about the positive actions they can take. Mrs Whitton works with our Eco Team on various initiatives around the school to enhance our school environment and keep environmental impact at the fore of our decision-making.

Surrey Wildlife Trust - Wilder Schools Project

We are developing areas of our school site, with help from Surrey Wildlife Trust, to provide exciting learning spaces that promote biodiversity and enhance learning.

Sustainability and the Future

The Senior Leadership and Governors have the mandate to ensure Walton on the Hill Primary School continues to serve the village community for generations to come. In order to do this, they continually review the changing educational landscape and financial implications, including possible academisation. We are also committed to ensuring our school moves towards the most environmentally sustainable way of operating.
